28 Day Devotional, Day 27:

Heart To Serve

Employers are looking for certain qualities in their employees. One of these character traits is integrity. Even employees expect this from their bosses! Nehemiah had the responsibility to taste the wine before the king partook of his meal to ensure no poisoning was involved. Great trust was at stake and we find Nehemiah had favor with King Artaxerxes from his duties and responsibilities.

When the king observed Nehemiah’s sad countenance and inquired of this unusual situation, Nehemiah was honest and told the king his heart for his countrymen and homeland. He was praying the whole time! It pleased the king to grant Nehemiah’s petition to leave his post and fulfill his heart’s mission. Nehemiah had proven himself worthy of respect, dignity, and honor, and the result was fulfilling God’s purpose for His kingdom! This is a life skill to have in order for us to be effective employees and witnesses for God.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for giving me a redeemed heart to serve you and others. I pray that your Spirit work upon my heart to be pure and honest. In my job may you be glorified and your will be done. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Nehemiah 2:5-6 KJV
And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.
And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.

28 Day Devotional, Day 26:

Connect With God To Serve

National emergencies require strong leadership. Throughout history we can see leaders rise to the occasion to confront the issues and lead the nation. The nation of Israel needed someone to restore the city of Jerusalem, which was in ruins, and bring spiritual revival.

What kind of man was God looking for? The Word of God tells us Nehemiah had been a man of prayer and fasting. He knew God’s ways, His holiness, His promises, and His judgments. Nehemiah was a patient intercessor for his people. He possessed a servant’s heart as he served the king as a cup-bearer.

He had the faith and confidence that his God was with Him. Nehemiah knew how to connect with his God. His heart, mind, and soul was prepared for the task, and when the time came, he rose to the occasion. With Nehemiah’s example, we can ascertain that our life in Christ will not slip God’s attention and He will call us to service.

Prayer: Great is Your Name, Lord God! You are holy, righteous, and almighty. Grant me the ability to pray, fast, intercede, know your Word, and have a pure heart to serve you. I desire to be a faithful servant in your kingdom ready to do your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Nehemiah 1:4 KJV
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

28 Day Devotional, Day 25:

Participating In His Work

There were great walls built in world history that have remnants today and remind us of their significance and value. Barriers such as the Great Wall of China, the Berlin Wall, and the Walls of Babylon demonstrate to us the significance of their glory. There is only one wall recorded in history to have a unique claim.

China’s wall is described as one of the most amazing engineering achievements. The Berlin Wall was a symbol demonstrating the division of freedom and tyranny. The Babylonian Wall was considered as “one of the world wonders of the ancient world due to its grandeur and architecture.” The unique wall that Nehemiah rebuilt placed fear and humility in the surrounding nations.

How so? They perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God. When human beings recognize the supernatural Hand of God in an event, then the natural mind must acknowledge His Being. Glory to God! Are you participating in His work these last days?

Prayer: How majestic is your name, O God! May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray that I am faithful and obedient to the work you have called me to do. I pray your Church expresses your divine glory so that all may acknowledge you as the Most High God. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Nehemiah 6:15-16 KJV
So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
