Chapter 27: Jacob steals Esau’s inheritance. Then his mom has him flee to her brother’s house.
Chapter 28: So much takes place in this chapter. Isaac calls Jacob and gives blessing and says not to take a wife from Canaan but from thy mother’s brother one of his daughters, he then sends Jacob away. Esau have saw Isaac bless Jacob heard not to take a wife from Canaan does that. He goes unto Ishmael to get a wife. (Here you see where a wrong was made. Esau having full understanding not to take a wife from that land then to deliberately do so). Jacob heads towards Haran and takes rest and dreams of a Ladder set upon the earth and sees the angels going up and down upon it and then the Lord stood above it and speaks unto him. Jacob would have awoken amazed by what he had just experienced and acknowledges God makes an altar snd pours oil upon it. God makes a vow unyo Jacob in his dream and Jacob makes a vow unto God when he awakens.
Chapter 29: Jacob’s years at Haran is what this chapter is titled which is fitting for such a passage. Jacob first meets Rachel and wishes her to be his wife. Laban the father of Rachel has him to stay on for 7 years in order to obtain Rachel as his wife. Which he does and comes to know that Leah is also the eldest of the two daughters of Laban. 7 years he serves to get Rachel and vs 22 Labon gathers the men and has a feast most likely wine is involved as come evening it is Leah he receives and not Rachel. Then questions Laban about it the next day why had thou beguiled me? So he keeps Leah for the full week and then receives Rachel after another 7 years. Leah is not perceived as beautiful as Rachel and as such is treated not as equal level as her sister. The Lord saw this and opened her womb and she conceived 3 sons and Rachel lay barren.
Chapter 30: Rachel envied Leah because she could bare no children. She goes to Jacob and tells him to give me children. Jacob’s anger is kindled against her and she offers her maid to lay with him to bare children. (Custom to offer maid to bare child if wife could not so the child could still be called her child even though the maid had the child). God did not forget Rachel and did in facr open her womb so she might conceive and she named her son Joseph. Jacob then asks Laban if he could leave. )To not have his blessing would cause a war within the family as is custom of Eastern culture. Just because you have a wife or wifes and family doesn’t mean you just up and leave your in law’s home. It’s a sign of respect that Jacob takes in asking Laban if he can now leave with his wives and children and all that is his).
Chpater 31: Laban and his sons are unhappy with all Jacob his taking with him and accusing Jacob of stealing their inheritance. They treat him differently because of this. God returns to Jacob in a dream and tells him to return unto thy kindred. Rachel steals from her father while he is out shearing his sheep. Though Jacob knows not that Rachel has stolen continues his journey and Laban catches up to them and seaches the tents and doesn’t find the items that were stolen. Laban and Jacob take an oath and Laban leaves. (Summarizing it).
