You maybe wondering why a chapter a day and not several chapters or a book a day out of the Bible. The reason is one that would be simply reading like you would a book. The Bible is so much more than just a book. It’s not a fairy tale but a history book of events that happened to real people.
Why read several chapters or a book a day when you need to study God’s word. You are not just meant to read it or pick in choose the ones you like but to understand to learn and grow and become Christ like. Without studying His word, how would you know what He has in store for you? How would you handle certain situations without knowing the words and keeping them in your heart so when you need them you can recall them?
It’s important to Study God’s word and that is what I am doing each day a chapter at a time so nothing is missed and you can think and meditate on what you read and study for yourself and see what the scriptures say to you.
You may be wondering with chapter 5 what is so important about who begat who…
◾One God put it in the Bible for a reason.
◾Two if it wasn’t meant to be in the Bible God would have left it out.
◾Three it gives a historical/genealogy timeline between the time of Adam up to Noah.
It’s important to take note that Genesis is the only book to cover more years than any other Book of the Bible spanning a couple thousand of years and then some. Even though it can get boring at times there is a reason it is written into the Bible.
Don’t just take my word for it but find out for yourself and see what God eants to reveal through His own words to you.
In case the first 3 was not helpful as to why Begats and all that is written in the Bible is important let’s use this verse to remember why.
2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Next two paragraphs are from the Bible Hub using Barnes Notes to help explain 2 Timothy 3:16. KJV.
Did you catch it is Inspired by God, for profitable ( meaning useful) doctrine (meaning teaching), for reproof (meaning covincing of one’s sins), for correction (meaning setting things right), and
For instruction in righteousness – Instruction in regard to the principles of justice, or what is right. Man needs not only to be made acquainted with truth, to be convinced of his error, and to be reformed; but he needs to be taught what is right, or what is required of him, in order that he may lead a holy life. Every reformed and regenerated man needs instruction, and should not be left merely with the evidence that he is “reformed, or converted.” He should be followed with the principles of the word of God, to show him how he may lead an upright life. The Scriptures furnish the rules of holy living in abundance, and thus they are adapted to the whole work of recovering man, and of guiding him to heaven.
Going back to chapter 5 in verse 22 through 24 “to walk with God” is to set God always before us. This was Enoch’s only care and concern was God always first in His life. Enoch didn’t live for himself as others did but for God.
Side note only Enoch and Noah are the only two, to walk with God in reference to Amos 3:3 KJV. Using Christianity.com and Crosswalk.com to help me out as well today.
From my Sunday School Teachers: Yes, the geniality is important for future reference. However , one of the biggest things is the ages of people . The ages aren’t literal but rather describe things of importance . Like there is exactly 10 names in the whole chapter which means there gaps in the genealogies in big numbers. Lamechs age of 777 years describes perfection. Enochs’ age of 365 years is describing completeness , days in a COMPLETE year. Enoch didn’t see death, but was taken straight to heaven because of his perfect relationship with God. Lamech is mentioned because he is the 7th in line from Adam. Again, a sign of Gods perfect timing. As 7 is a number of perfection. Multiples such as 777 is super perfection if you will. So you have the 7s and 3 of them, which 3 is also a number of perfection and repeats throughout the Bible. 7s and 3s and 10s and 12s all significant numbers throughout scripture .
So that says to me PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to context and history. When you see these numbers happening. You see the Old Testament dated things by genealogies and later in with the kings that were in power at the time.
Genealogy takes a whole year of Bible college to cover properly.
I’m back writing: So, don’t just read the Bible to read it but study it use different references or teachers or pastors to help you understand what the Bible is saying and what God is asking of you.
God bless you and your loved ones!
