If you recall chapter 3 where Adam’s and Eve’s sin got them kicked out of the garden of Eden and the ground was cursed.

We pick up with Eve barring two sons Cain and Abel. They both took an offering to the Lord and only Abel’s offering pleasing to God.

Now let’s back up a bit Sin came into the world because both Adam and Eve did not listen to God by eating of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. By not listening to God it never ends well. As seen by Adam and Eve kicked out and Cain killing his own brother when all he had to do was listen and follow God’s instructions.

Picking back up, Cain was with his brother in the field and took his life. Whether it be jealousy or anger toward him either way he took his life. There was no justified reason for Cain to have taken Abel’s life.

Therefore God cursed Cain for having taken his brother’s life and marked him so if someone were to kill him vengeance shall be taken.

The key is to listen to what God is saying and instructing you to do. Follow and obey Him is all He asks of you.
