Day 28 of 31 days:

Rest

Good morning.

To rest is to trust. When we’ve done what we can and rest in that, God will do what we can’t. We can take a break because God doesn’t (Psalm 121:4). We often don’t rest because we are control freaks. We hold on to something so tightly that we end up draining the life from ourselves. The more we find rest in Him, the more we find we trust Him.

My dog, Coop, loves to fall asleep on my lap. For Coop, it’s a very vulnerable position. If I just moved the wrong way, he would fall. However, I’m realizing that the more he rests in my lap, the more he wants to. Why? Because trust is growing. He’s realizing
it’s a safe and sure place. Let’s remember that God can do more when we actually rest, let go, and give it to Him completely. I pray each day we truly believe that He can do more in a moment than we can do in a lifetime. He’s faithful over His word on our lives (Jeremiah 1:12), and He wants it to come to pass more than we do.

What’s one area that you haven’t been able to let go of control in?

Matthew 11:28 King James Version

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Holy Week Devotional

Day 1 of 6 days:

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and the start of “Holy Week”. Some of the most familiar teachings and stories of the gospels occur during this week preceding Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Our relationship with Christ is the foundation of our faith and we can learn so much by studying His life. Although He was fully God, He was also fully man and walked out a human experience that includes joy and love along with suffering and hardship. Jesus shows us how to navigate challenges and even tragedy. We can be confident in His love for us, even in the midst of difficult times!

Jesus demonstrates what it looks like to live with a strong connection to the Father and a deep compassion for people. These two priorities are more important than ever in our current circumstances! We must strengthen our relationship with the Lord and find ways to nurture connection and community with others.

This week, we’ll start each day with a devotional and reading from the book of Mark.

Mark 11:1-11 King James Version

11 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,

And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.

And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?

And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.

And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.

And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

Day 27 of 31 Days:

Creativity

Good morning.

We all possess a form of creativity. No, the only ones are not those with paint brushes, Photoshop, instruments, or a camera. I understand our modern terminology, but if we’re not careful, we’ll relegate creativity to a department in an organization, and if we don’t fit that mold, we’ll disqualify ourselves from being creative. It’s much larger than that. I know some naturally think outside of the box, but I’d like to challenge who we see as creatives. They’re anyone who can construct a system that’s scalable to a growing business, innovate when productivity is at a halt, write a script for an interview, plan a schedule around multiple moving parts, all the above, and so much more. Essentially, to create is to solve. To create is to fill a need or a lack. It brings something into existence that was once nonexistent. Anytime we step outside of the box of what is, we are creating.

The creativity award definitely goes to the Lord. As seen in Genesis 1, creation is designed from such variety of colors, stones, dirt, breath, systems, time, and the list goes on. He had no limitations. With that in mind, we must now acknowledge that we are His reflection and made in His image. His very nature, passion, and desire to create is within us. I pray we all discover that creativity within and use it for His glory.

What are two non-work matters that you could create this week?

Exodus 35:35 King James Version

35 Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.

Day 26 of 31 days:

Faith

Good morning.

My lawnmower is teaching me about faith. One thing I’ve learned is that it won’t start and steer by itself. As convenient as that might be, I must be the one who does that. In the same way, faith must be activated to display power. Over the winter, my lawnmower stays in the garage unused. When the season comes back around, at least for a while, it takes a little more effort to start it up. After a few weeks of using it, it kicks in right away. In the same way, I’ve learned that faith is like my mower’s engine. The more you use it, the easier it is to ignite and the stronger it becomes. I’ve found many of us struggle with faith because of a couple of prevailing reasons. We don’t use it and we don’t get in the Word (Romans 10:17).

The woman with the issue of blood in the Synoptic Gospels heard of Jesus (the Word) and then she moved on what she heard. When a disease-stricken, anemic, exiled, suffering-for-over-4,000-days woman left her house and traveled for possibly 38 miles on foot, she didn’t act faithless. She truly believed on the other side of her faith that she would be healed. In fact, she was made completely whole. This is the character of God summarized: When we step, He responds (James 4:8). All that we need is found on the other side of our step of faith. And there we find the the realm of possibilities beyond the natural eye where the supernatural lies.

What is the next step of faith you know you need to take?

Hebrews 11:1 King James Version

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
