28 Day Devotional, Day 12:

Prayer For Understanding God’s Plan And Character

Once Abraham knew God was planning to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, he negotiated with God for Sodom. Abraham knew what kind of God he was serving. God is a just God. Abraham also knew God’s promise never fails. He negotiated with God for righteous people in Sodom. He would also want his nephew, Lot, and his family who live in Sodom to be delivered from God’s wrath.

Even Abraham did not ask God to save Lot, but God planned to send His angels to save Lot before God sent angels to see Abraham because God remembered Abraham (Genesis 19:29). As we pray more, we will not only know more of God’s plan, but

also His nature, character and love, which is more than we asked for.

Prayer: Lord Father, thank you for your love and listening to our prayers. Holy Spirit, help us to hear from you and know your plan and your will. Help us to obey you and trust in you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Genesis 19:1 KJV
And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

God bless you and your loved ones.

Each time I read the Bible I learn more and become fascinated with those I read about. For instance Joseph currently reading about him and all that happen to him. Yet he didn’t withhold his anger against his brother’s when they were in need many years later. He had every right to be angry and harden his heart to them. Yet he showed them mercy and grace.

28 Day Devotional, Day 11:

Prayer For Understanding God Is Righteous And Merciful

After God revealed His plan to Abraham, Abraham had compassion for the righteous people of Sodom and Gomorrah. He negotiated with God to save the righteous people who lived in those cities. Abraham asked God if he will then sweep away the righteous with the wicked? (Genesis 18:23) Through interceding, Abraham understood more of God.

He is a merciful God. God is both kind and fair. He wanted to spare all wicked people and the whole city if just ten righteous people were found in the city. However, His justice is not changed by His mercy. This is the reason He loves us so much and sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. When we pray, we will know more of God and God’s heart for the lost.

Prayer: Father Lord, you are holy, you are righteous, you are love and you are merciful. Thank you for your love for us and your mercy to us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Genesis 18:32 KJV
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

I changed my radio station and went to one that does more of the songs I grew up on in church. Wach day after work they are reading through the Bible. Of course they are reading based on a different timeline I guess of going through the Bible through the year. Could be reading more than one chapter a day I tend to catch more of the end of it. It’s fun to see the different ways to read through the Bible. I choose a chapter a day because I want to study and meditate on what I read and not rush through it. I want to see what is being mentioned with each chapter and what I am to take away or see that I didn’t see before.

Thank you for letting me share a chapter a day with you. Work has picked up and gotten more busy so makes it harder to do a study each day with you. This is why I have chosen Sunday to do a week walk through of all that has been read snd come together then.

God bless you and your loved ones.

28 Day Devotional, Day 10:

Compassion For The Lost

When Abraham knew God’s plan to Sodom, he had compassion for the lost. A friend of God shares the same compassion even for those who had sinned a great sin. God is compassionate for the lost. In Matthew 9:36, when Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion for them. Abraham interceded for Sodom.

When Israelites sinned against God by worshiping a golden calf, God was so angry that He might consume them. (Exodus 32:10) Moses was a friend of God. He had compassion for the lost. He asked God to forgive their sin, if not, he asked God to remove his name out of His book of life. When God’s wrath came upon Israel, Ezekiel fell upon his face and cried “Ah Lord God! Will you destroy all the remnant of Israel?” (Ezekiel 9:8) Abraham, Moses and Ezekiel’s intercession are not unlike each other. They all had compassion and prayed for the lost.

Prayer: Father Lord, we pray you increase our compassion for the lost, so that we can keep interceding for our unbeliever friends, colleagues, neighbors, community, family and nations. It is because you are the Lord who is compassionate for the lost. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Genesis 18:24 KJV
Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

28 Day Devotional, Day 9:

Prayer For Understanding His Condescending Love

In various scriptures, it says God treated Abraham (2 Chronicles 20:7, Isaiah 41:8, James 2:23) and Moses (Exodus 33:11) each as a friend and talked to them as a friend would. Jesus called His disciples His friends (John 15). When God treats us as His friends, He also acts as our friend and He will reveal His plan to us as our friend.

It is not because we are worthy, but it is because of His condescending love. God condescended himself that we can draw ourselves closer to Him. Abraham knows it. He respected God’s majesty. Abraham admits that he is nothing but dust and ashes as he stands before the Lord (Genesis 18:27). Prayers in humility increase our appreciation of God.

Prayer: Father Lord, thank you for calling us your children and friends. It is not because we are worthy, but because you love us so much and lower yourself to draw us close to you. Father Lord, help us to humble ourselves so that we will know how wide and how high your love is. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Genesis 18:17 KJV
And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
